Matěj Balcar
He is a graduate of the Miroslav Ondříček Film Academy in Písek in the field of directing, screenwriting and dramaturgy. He specializes in played works, targeted commercials with story and humor, and is also an art director. During his studies, he made several successful films out of which Podoba Lásky is worth mentioning (nomination for the award Magnesia Český lev for Best Student Film 2013). In addition to played works, he focuses mainly on commercials (gold medal at EFFIE 2015 for the spot Obědy pro děti, third place Czech Award for PR 2017 for Jedlá Stravenka UP, nomination for the Czech Award for PR 2017 – ČSOB Hiring life) and then also theatre. He made his debut in 2015 at the theatre Na Jezerce with the comedy Tři v tom. This was followed by the very successful performance Už je tady zas – Timur Vermes and his author’s play Men’s Club, which garnered great reviews and quickly became a bestseller. He directed the family musical Alenka v kraji zázraků for the theatre Hybernia and together with association DIVA Ženy he prepared the dramatization of Tereza Strnadová’s authorial text Mediální pakáž aneb dreamjob, which is presented in Rock Café. He currently works mainly as a director of commercials, art director and producer at Demopictures v.o.s. and as the main director of the theatre Na Jezerce. Matěj worked for brands such as: Škoda, Ford, Eon, Tchibo, Philips Saeco, TOP 09 and STAN, Chéque Dejaneur, Litovel, Equa bank, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson.
